6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 6 — The Over That Broke Punjab Kings and Unlocked DC's Biggest Total Ever

There are overs that change the momentum of a match. And then there are overs that break a team completely — body, spirit, and scorecard all at once.

The 12th over of Delhi Capitals' innings against Punjab Kings on April 25, 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium was the second kind.

Xavier Bartlett ran in to bowl. Nitish Rana was waiting.

What happened next was not cricket. It was a demolition.

Ball by Ball — The Over That Changed Everything

Nitish Rana took complete control and smashed Xavier Bartlett for a massive 28 runs in the over — two sixes and four boundaries as Punjab Kings suddenly found themselves under serious pressure, a rare sight this season. Here is exactly what happened, ball by ball:

Ball 1 — SIX Full ball in the slot outside off. Rana gets into position, loads up, and hammers it flat over deep extra cover. Not a slog. A calculated, brutal strike that cleared the rope with plenty to spare.

Ball 2 — FOUR Bartlett tries to adjust. Rana punishes the adjustment.

Ball 3 — FOUR Still no answer from Bartlett. Rana is seeing it like a football.

Ball 4 — FOUR Three boundaries in a row. Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer watching from the boundary with no answers.

Ball 5 — FOUR Four boundaries in a row. The Arun Jaitley Stadium crowd on their feet. Bartlett running in knowing what is coming and unable to stop it.

Ball 6 — SIX The perfect ending. Rana launches the final delivery back over the bowler for a towering six to finish what he started. The scoreboard ticks to 28 off the over.

6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 6.

Twenty-eight runs. Zero dots. One over. One broken bowling attack.

The Context — Why This Over Mattered So Much

Before that over, DC were 142 for 1 in 12 overs — KL Rahul on 65 off 34 balls and Rana on 65 off 32 balls. Punjab Kings were already under pressure — but that single over broke the door of utter chaos wide open.

Punjab Kings had come into this match as the only unbeaten team in IPL 2026. Five wins. One no result. Zero losses. The tournament's most formidable side.

After that one over from Rana — they looked like any other team that had just been hit for 28 in six balls.

Who is Xavier Bartlett?

Xavier Bartlett is not a bad bowler. The tall Australian has genuine pace and has been a reliable option for Punjab Kings this season. But on this afternoon in Delhi — in 42 degree heat — against Nitish Rana in full flow, he had no answers.

The over went 6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 6 — just relentless hitting. Rana flipped the momentum completely and with his strike rate soaring past 200, Delhi Capitals were in full control.

Bartlett would come back later in the innings and take Rana's wicket — but by then the damage was done. 28 runs in one over is the kind of punishment that changes a match, a total, and sometimes a season.

Rana's Full Story — The Innings Behind the Over

The 28-run over was just one chapter of Nitish Rana's remarkable innings on this day.

Rana's brilliant knock came to an end on 91 as he fell just short of a well-deserved century — unable to clear Shreyas Iyer who pulled off a sharp one-handed catch to break the massive partnership. It was a full toss from Bartlett and Rana looked to go inside-out but only managed a chip in the air.

Out for 91. Off 51 balls. At a strike rate of over 178. In the shadow of KL Rahul's all-time great innings — and still one of the best knocks of IPL 2026.

What It Unlocked for DC

That 28-run over was the moment DC's total went from big to historic.

KL Rahul went on to become only the third batter in IPL history to score 150 or more runs in an innings — joining Brendon McCullum and Chris Gayle in that exclusive club.

None of it would have been possible without Nitish Rana taking Bartlett apart in the 12th over and giving DC the platform to go truly berserk in the final overs.

The 28-run over was the moment this became a historic innings rather than just a very good one.

IPL Bench Verdict

6, 4, 4, 4, 4, 6.

Write those numbers down. Screenshot the scorecard. Because that one over on April 25, 2026 in Delhi was the moment KL Rahul's 152 became possible. The moment DC's total became historic. The moment Punjab Kings' unbeaten record started cracking.

Nitish Rana may not get the headlines today. KL Rahul will — and rightly so. But every great innings needs someone to open the door.

On April 25, Nitish Rana didn't just open the door. He knocked it clean off its hinges. 🏏

Will AR Rahman Sing "Nee Singam Dhan" for Dhoni Tonight at CSK ROAR'26? — The Song That Was Made for This Moment

AR Rahman is at the centre of the stage, the Chepauk floodlights glowing above him. MS Dhoni is somewhere in the stadium — the man who has made this ground his home for nearly two decades. And then the opening notes of Nee Singam Dhan begin. If that happens tonight at CSK ROAR'26, it will be one of the most goosebump moments in the history of Indian cricket. Not because of the cricket. Nee Singam Dhan — meaning You Are A Lion — is a powerful Tamil song composed by AR Rahman and sung by Sid Sriram. It was released in 2023 as part of the soundtrack of the Tamil film Pathu Thala. The lyrics were written by Vivek. The song is about a person of extraordinary strength and resilience. Someone who stan...
